Obama Campaign Buys More Apple Than Exxon

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Apple(AAPL) , American Express(AMP) and gasoline are just a few of Barack Obama's and Mitt Romney's favorite things.

The president and the GOP nominee have raised $217.1 million and $98 million, respectively, but you may not be aware of their massive expenditures on basic stuff.

Sure, the campaigns spend heavily on telemarketing, media buys and direct mail to reach undecided voters, but they also have to pay for travel, office supplies and coffee.

The April 2012 disbursements filed by the two presidential candidates' campaigns offered some interesting payments. Here are the best ones TheStreet discovered.

Obama campaign:

  • Exxon Mobil(XOM) fuel payments: $219.56
  • Staples(SPLS) office supplies: $1,247.78
  • Apple(AAPL) computers and software: $32,126.57
  • Wal-Mart(WMT) : $188.79
  • Target(TGT) : $174.39
  • Total gas payments: $18,329.88
  • Starbucks(SBUX) : $28.68
  • 7-Eleven: $112.30
