Santorum Raises 'North' of $4 Million in 10 Days

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Rick Santorum's campaign has raised more than $4 million since his Feb. 7 primary victories as donors have flocked to the Republican candidate as a viable alternative to Mitt Romney.

The $4 million came from some 30,000 unique donors, Santorum Campaign Manager Mike Biundo confirmed in an interview.

"Since that fateful Tuesday, we've raised north of $4 million and I think it's like 30 some-odd thousand donors, individual donors that have given in that timeframe," Biundo said. "Between that and the size of the crowds and the interest and folks signing up on our Web site, I mean you just feel it on every single level of the campaign."

Biundo spoke a couple hours after Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine officially switched his endorsement Friday to Santorum from Romney.

Biundo said the endorsement reflected the broader momentum of their campaign and that they're seeing support pivot from other campaigns to theirs from the grassroots level to the upper tiers.

"It reflects the moment that we're in in this campaign ... I think it reflects what's going on on a broader scale," Biundo said. "It's an exciting day for the campaign of course."

The 10-day cash infusion was virtually identical to the $4.2 million the campaign raised in all of January, but still paled in comparison to Romney's more than $56.5 million. This could be one reason why Biundo and others within Santorum's camp still consider the senator an underdog.

When asked if Santorum considered Ohio a crucial state primary on Super Tuesday, Biundo said every state on March 6 is crucial and that they're treating every race with equal significance. The latest Rasmussen Reports poll showed Santorum ahead of Romney by 18 percentage points.

But before Super Tuesday heats up, the GOP candidates will jockey for delegates in Arizona and Michigan.
