NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- TheStreet's Jim Cramer gets some help from Ross Kenneth Urken and Mad Money Research Director Nicole Urken regarding GIF files.

The GIF file, ( "Jiff") , or Graphics Interchange Format file, was created in 1987 by Steve Wilhite at CompuServe.

It's getting a second life, Ross said, with the rise of Tumblr, which was acquired by Yahoo! earlier this year.

The file format is also very similar to Vine, which captures a more emotional aspect or deeper meaning to somebody's life than a photograph, Nicole said.

Ross added that this file is indeed important, although at first glance it may be hard to understand why.

But these short, five-second clips can easily go viral, drawing millions of page views and clicks. It makes viewing something much more valuable, he said.

Nicole said that it's more important to know what the file is, rather than how to make them. But for those interested, the Web site www.gifboom.com is capable of such an action.

While it is generally geared toward younger people, it's a format that is quickly gaining popularity among all age groups, she concluded.
