[video] Quick Take: Amazon's Big Deal
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Amazon
TheStreet's Brittany Umar reported that the new seven-days-a-week shipping feature will only be in New York and Los Angeles at first.
In 2014, it will expand to New Orleans, Dallas, Phoenix and several other cities as well.
The additional shipping day will not alter the cost of standard shipping for consumers and will certainly please Amazon Prime members, who, among other perks, receive free two-day shipping, she added.
Prime members who purchase a product on Friday can now expect to receive it by Sunday in the select locations.
Umar suggested the deal isn't just a win for Amazon, which one-upped many online retailers, but is a win for the post office as well.
The USPS has been hemorrhaging money and struggling to keep its finances in order. It has also considered going down to five delivery days, from the current six, Umar concluded.
The Postal Service could strike up more deals like this in the future.
