Preview On Nokia Lumia Event

Tickers in this article: NOK QCOM VZ

Nokia (NOK) will be holding a press event on May 14, 2013 in London, U.K., with the tagline “The Nokia Lumia Story Continues.” Prior to the event, news leaked that Verizon (VZ) will be launching the Lumia 928 in the United States. The 928 will be priced at $99 (after a mail-in rebate of $50), weighs 162 grams, and has a 4.5-inch screen. The device is similar to the Lumia 920 except for some minor differences. The Lumia 928 will use a Xenon flash instead of LED. Both models use the same Qualcomm (QCOM) processor and will have the same camera. PureView Camera

Nokia would win over many consumers if the Lumia 925 announcement were to include a 41 megapixel camera. The PureView was released in 2012, but had limited positive benefits for Nokia because the camera was built on the outgoing Symbian-based operating system. The inclusion of the PureView on the Windows Phone 8 devices would give consumers a reason to choose a Nokia smartphone.

Specifications

Thought to be called the Lumia 925, the refresh could have a PureView camera. Codenamed “Catwalk,” the device announcement on May 14 could have a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (S4), 1GB of memory, and 16 GB of storage.

Nokia Lumia EOS

Nokia may announce a quadcore-powered smartphone that would be thinner and lighter at the event. Leaked images in April, 2013 suggest that the phone would have an aluminum body.

Share Performances

Nokia and Qualcomm are the companies to watch. Investors should be cautious ahead of the event. The stock market often prices in rumors in the share price, only to take profits after the announcements are made. In May, Nokia shares regained some of its losses ahead of the event:
