Is Wal-Mart planning on marketing their own, branded tablets and book readers?

Are they betting those devices are becoming passe?

Or, do they just want a bigger piece of the online sales pie for themselves?

According to an exclusive Reuters report, Wal-Mart – and possibly their Sam's Club warehouse chain - will no longer sell any Amazon.com Kindle products in their stores.

Store managers have been told that once current inventory is sold - Wal-Mart is done with Kindle. They added that includes all of Amazon's current and recently announced models.

A Wal-Mart spokesperson told Reuters that they would continue to sell other tablets such as Apple's iPad and Barnes & Noble Nooks. Both companies sell online as well as via retail outlets.

Amazon offered no comment.
