Mitt Romney Narrows Fundraising Gap

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Mitt Romney's campaign and the Republican National Committee raised $40.1 million in April.

Romney's announcement came in a press email Thursday, a day after Barack Obama's team said it raised $43.6 million in the same month.

The $3.5 million that separated the two candidates showed a big uptick for Romney and the smallest margin of difference in the 2012 election cycle.

"We are pleased with the strong support we have received from Americans across the country who are looking for new leadership in the White House," Spencer Zwick, Romney's national finance chairman, said in a statement.

The narrower margin also appeared to indicate that the GOP has united behind its presumed nominee after an extended brawl with fellow Republicans in the primaries.
