What Do You Think of Yahoo!'s New CEO?

Tickers in this article: YHOO GOOG

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Yahoo!'s(YHOO) appointment of Google(GOOG) executive Marissa Mayer as the company's new CEO on Monday was a surprise move.

With interim CEO and Yahoo! insider Ross Levinsohn hotly tipped for the top job, the choice of Mayer has raised plenty of eyebrows.

Mayer, who was employee no. 20 at Google, is undoubtedly a gifted technologist. The 37-year old has served in a number of roles at the search giant, most recently overseeing Google's Location, Maps and Local Services. Mayer also launched more than 100 new features and products during her time in Mountain View, Calif., including iGoogle, Google News and Gmail.

The Google executive, however, has no experience running a company, but must now lead Yahoo!'s turnaround.

Mayer is Yahoo!'s third CEO in 12 months and enters a company struggling to shift its focus onto its core business and monetizing its Asian assets.

Recent months have also seen Yahoo! embroiled in a high-profile proxy battle with activist investor Daniel Loeb, major boardroom changes, and the announcement of job cuts as the company attempts to get back on track.

Set against this backdrop, Mayer certainly has her work cut out for her. Tell us what you think about her appointment in our poll (feel free to add additional comments in the comment section at the bottom of this story):
