Apple Roundup: AuthenTec, iPhone 5, Apple Glass

Tickers in this article: AUTH AAPL

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- The top Apple(AAPL) tidbits from around the globe include a rare M&A foray, iPhone 5 leaks, and more patents pointing towards wearable technology.

This morning Apple announced a deal to purchase AuthenTec(AUTH) for $8 per share, a near 60% premium to yesterday's closing price.

AuthenTec makes mobile and network security solutions, and recently signed a deal with Samsung to be featured in its new Android smartphone and tablets.

As the iPhone 5 gets ready to launch, perhaps in late September, various cases are showing up. One of them now has a prototype inside it, detailing what it might look like.

Gizmodo notes that the case from Cool Zone PDA shows the iPhone with a taller design, headphone jack on the bottom of the phone, and perhaps a smaller dock connector.

There have been rumors and speculation that Apple is looking into wearable technology, and another patent points to this.

A patent application Apple filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office points to glasses, very similar to what Google(GOOG) did with its Project Glass.

The patent filing is titled "Display resolution increase with mechanical actuation."

Shares of Apple edged lower in Friday trade, off 0.36% to $572.8.
