Apple Suppliers Gear Up for Smaller Tablet: Report
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- The launch of a smaller Apple(AAPL) tablet is nearing, according to a published media report that cited anonymous sources familiar with the situation.
The report, published on The Wall Street Journal's Web site, said Apple's component suppliers in Asia are gearing up for mass production in September of a tablet with a smaller screen than the current iPad.
Two of the sources said the new tablet's screen likely would be smaller than eight inches, the newspaper reported. So far, all iPads have had 9.7-inch screens.
An Apple representative declined to comment, the Journal reported.
Shares of Apple closed Tuesday up $6.89 at $599.41. U.S. stock markets were closed Wednesday in observance of the Fourth of July.
