Canandaigua, N.Y.

After finishing up the first phase of a plan to foster business development in Canandaigua, a consultant will present his draft recommendations to the City Council’s planning committee on Tuesday.

Peter Fairweather, president of the New Paltz-based company, Fairweather Consulting, was hired in May to construct an economic development plan for the city at a cost of about $38,000.

The first phase was an eight-month process that included analysis of businesses, trends and workforce in the area. Fairweather will present and discuss the findings from that process during the meeting and said he’s looking forward to hearing the council’s feedback.

“(The draft recommendation) is actually fairly comprehensive,” Fairweather said.

He didn’t want to divulge details until the plan was presented to the City Council, but said the draft deals with the city’s economy,  particularly “specific manufacturing business services, healthcare, retail and tourism.”

The next step after the presentation will be a public presentation of the development plan. Fairweather said that should take place in four to six-weeks.
