Hartford, Conn.
Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen’s planned meeting Tuesday with leaders of three Eastern Connecticut towns regarding a federal lawsuit by the Eastern Pequot Indian tribe was canceled, according to Susan Kinsman, a Jepsen spokeswoman.
Jepsen was scheduled to meet with Ledyard Mayor John Rodolico, North Stonington First Selectman Nicholas Mullane II and Preston First Selectman Robert Congdon in Hartford. Mullane said Tuesday a decision is likely to be made Friday on whether the lawsuit will proceed.
Until that decision is made, a meeting would be premature, he said. If the lawsuit goes forward, Mullane said he expects to meet with Jepsen.
The Eastern Pequot tribe seeks to reinstate its federal recognition, which was revoked in 2005 by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
