Montville schools formally accept $30,000 literacy grant
The Montville public schools system has formally accepted a $30,000, three-year grant from the Liberty Bank Foundation aimed at boosting reading skills for 4-year-olds about to enter kindergarten.
The department was notified of the award, only one of three in Connecticut, in May. Superintendent of Schools Pamela Aubin accepted a check from foundation executives earlier this month.
The grant will pay for the Kindergarten Readiness Summer and Saturday Experiences, a new program operating at all three Montville elementary schools. Montville is switching to full-day kindergarten beginning in late August with the start of the new school year.
