Google's Project Glass: Hot Trends

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Popular searches on the Internet Thursday include Google's(GOOG) Project Glass, as the tech titan has revealed details about its digitized headgear in a video featuring the device on its Google Plus social network.

In the video, Google demonstrates that the device is capable of the same sort of functions as a smartphone, with information displayed right in the user's field of vision. Google, which also refers to Project Glass as "augmented reality" glasses, is inviting viewers of the video to leave suggestions on how to improve the device. The headgear is composed of eyeglasses with silver frames that include cameras and displays on the lens and a built-in microphone. The user can access the Internet, real time weather, directions, maps, video chat, and other functions capable of a smartphone.

It's been speculated that the device will sell for $250 to $500, though Google has not confirmed its projected price point.

DirecTV(DTV) is trending as the company has come to an agreement with Tribune Broadcasting, ending a four-day blackout that affected 20 million subscribers in 19 U.S. markets.

The companies reached a deal that will allow DirecTV to carry all of Tribune's local stations and WGN America for the next five years. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed. DirecTV subscribers were without programming since midnight Saturday, when the previous contract expired, to 9 p.m. EDT Wednesday.

Though DirecTV accused Tribune of being "willing to hold our customers hostage in an attempt to extract excessive rates," it described the agreement as a fair deal.

Fiat is another popular topic. The carmaker is aiming for its European business to breakeven by 2014, thanks to its alliance with Chrysler.

The two companies entered an alliance nearly three years ago. Together, they expect to sell between 4.1 million and 4.4 million vehicles this year, up from just more than 4 million last year.
