Nicolas Sarkozy Targeted in Campaign Finance Probe
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Police searched former French President Nicolas Sarkozy's home and offices as part of a probe into possible illegal financing of his 2007 presidential campaign, according to reports.
The Associated Press reported that an official said the probe targeted L'Oreal cosmetics heiress Lilliane Bettencourt, who allegedly may have provided illegal campaign funds to Sarkozy's party.
The official told the AP that Judge Jean-Michel Gentil and other investigators from the Paris financial crimes unit conducted the search.
