Nonstop flights from Boston to Beijing to begin in 2014
Governor Deval Patrick announced today that Hainan Airlines will offer nonstop flights from Boston to Beijing starting next year.
In June 2014, the airline will begin service four days a week using the Boeing 787. According to the governor’s office, over 151 thousand passengers traveling from Boston to Beijing and the 32 cities connected by Hainan’s Beijing hub generated $134 million annual revenue in 2012.
The process of bringing nonstop service to Boston began in 2007. Boston is currently the airline passenger market in the US without nonstop flights to China.
According to the press release, the planes will have 36 business class seats and 177 economy seats. Each passenger will have a touch screen panel and a power outlet, with the business class seats featuring a USB port.
The nonstop flights will save passengers about six hours.
