10 Most Fuel-Efficient SUVs

Tickers in this article: NSANY GM TM

6. 2012 Honda(NSANY) CR-V 2WD EX-L with navigation
MSRP: $29,575
Combined miles per gallon: 26.8

Like its rival the Toyota RAV4, the Honda CR-V doesn't need much help selling itself. Families love the roomy interior and mileage so much that the 2002 CR-V has retained more than a third of its value over the past decade. This model's leather interior, heated seats and rearview windows and navigation system with controls mounted on the steering wheel make it all the more alluring.

5. 2012 Toyota(TM) Highlander Hybrid Limited
MSRP: $45,180
Combined miles per gallon: 28

This Camry-based crossover helped kill the lumbering conventional SUV when it was introduced little more than a decade ago, and it continues to trim the fat. That mileage complements such features as a moonroof, power liftgate, three-zone climate control and backup camera without sacrificing the Highlander's 94 cubic feet of storage space or three rows of seating. The bad news? Drivers pay about $9,000 more for those extra five miles per gallon.

4. 2012 Nissan(NSANY) Juke CVT SL
MSRP: $24,910
Combined miles per gallon: 29.5

Sure, the Juke is small and funny looking, but with this mileage it's what's inside that counts. That includes a surprising 36 cubic feet of cargo space, a navigation system, rearview camera, leather interior and an upgraded speaker system. Not bad perks for a car sporting all of four cylinders in its engine.
