NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Surprise. Did you think it would be anything other than the Apple(AAPL) iPad?

TheStreet polled readers on what their next tablet purchase would be, and an overwhelming majority, 69.88% or 608 people, said they would buy an iPad.

This comes as Apple is expected to launch the next version of its popular tablet, the iPad 3, next month.

After the iPad came the surprises. Slightly more than 14% of voters said they would buy the Nook from Barnes & Noble(BKS) . Only 5.6% of voters said they would buy Amazon's(AMZN) Kindle Fire.

On a recent Barnes & Noble conference call, CEO William Lynch said he had heard about some "quality issues with our biggest competitor" on its new product, with 15% to 25% return rates. Many presumed this to be the Kindle Fire. Amazon didn't return a request for comment on the issue.

Almost 7% of readers said they would buy another brand not mentioned in the poll, while just 3.56% of the 870 people who voted said they didn't want a tablet at all.
