NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Wall Street was wavering in midday trades Friday with investors unable to shake off fears of a deepening eurozone crisis.

Even a much stronger than expected final read on consumer sentiment failed to bring out the buyers as chatter about the impending U.S. "fiscal cliff" bubbled up ahead of the long holiday weekend.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 35 points, or 0.3%, at 12,495.
